TAPING
WHAT IS TAPING?
Taping can also be referred to as strapping and is a common treatment technique used by physiotherapists at Farrell Physiotherapy. It can be used as a method of preventing injury or can be used as a treatment method following injury.
Your physiotherapist will be fully qualified in applying taping depending on what your symptoms are and your treatment goals. You may also be taught how to put tape on yourself so you can continue to benefit from this treatment method outside of physiotherapy sessions.
Postural taping: Taping can be used for postural problems such as muscle imbalances which are causing excessive forces on certain structures. It can help to improve alignment and reduce spinal stresses.
Sports taping: Taping is very commonly used in the sporting environment to help support structures and provide sensory feedback to prevent injury or rehabilitate following injury.
WHAT CONDITIONS CAN TAPING TREAT?
Your physiotherapist will carry out a full assessment to determine what is causing your symptoms and how best to treat them. You will be provided with a treatment programme individual to you and may include taping alongside other treatment methods.
Taping can be used for several conditions including:
Muscle strains e.g. quadriceps, groin, hamstrings
